The California Science Center is a dynamic destination where families, adults and children can explore the wonders of science through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, innovative programs and awe-inspiring films. ESL students from Shepherd University, Los Angeles, along with their Teacher, Arin Bezik, visited this magnificent venue on their field trip, March 24, 2017. The entire route, from the departure to the destination, was filled with excitement for International students, mesmerized at the diversity and complexity of the LA Downtown area with its sky-scrapers and packed free-ways This scenery had aroused a vague sense of aesthetic appreciation and awe within students. Upon the arrival at the California Science Center, the entire team decided to seek guidance from the information desk on how to prioritize their sight-seeing spots to make the most out of their time. They started out with playing pirate games resembling the actual equipment utilized by pirates in sea battles. Afterwards, the group of visitors headed for the stall where the historic Endeavor Shuttle was on display. ESL students found this experience so encouraging seeing that they could converse with curators, ask for directions, and express their feelings using the English knowledge they had acquired through the ESL classes. The second thing that made this trip so memorable for these students was that they found a chance to interact with other ESL students who had been studying at Shepherd University ESL Program and we hope that these friendships may turn into lifetime companionships.
