Due to the fact that Shepherd University functions as a community of believers, students are to demonstrate a respectful attitude in all encounters with administrators, professors, staff personnel, campus guests, and other students. This standard applies to all areas of behavior, speech, and overall deportment. The same courtesy is to be returned to each student in the treatment he or she receives from others. Deviation from this standard will result in a review of the incident by faculty and staff advisors and the Dean of Student Affairs. Following this review, the Dean of Student Affairs will make an appropriate restorative recommendation.
Each professor is responsible for maintaining a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. If a student is asked to refrain from a disruptive behavior or is asked to leave the classroom, the student should do so immediately and respectfully. Upon leaving the classroom, the student should report to the Dean of Student Affairs. If necessary, the Dean of Student Affairs and/or faculty and staff advisors will meet with those involved and assign additional restorative action as necessary. The Dean of Student Affairs will advise the Dean of Academic Affairs and the President of allegations of faculty or staff misconduct.
The Dean of Student Affairs will review any incident of a student threatening or harming the physical well-being of a person or property. Following this review, the Dean of Student Affairs will assign a restorative action plan that could include reporting the incident to law-enforcement officials, imposing personal restrictions on the involved students, and/or recommending dismissal of the student from Shepherd University.
